Well that was fun!  We had a great turnout for the Privateering Light closing event yesterday.  It was great to meet new people and put faces to names.  Clive Copeman came along and had the difficult task of making his selection of top images from the exhibition, but these are the excellent photographers he chose.

**The photographers are still sending digital copies of their images so this post will be updated as they arrive.

Judges Selection

Top Award: Susan Macey - $100 voucher from The Photo Gallery
Runner Up: David Steer - Signed copy of Dunedin Light Seasons book from Derek Morrison at Box of Light, and 2 Rialto movie tickets
Highly Commended: Nicola Pye, Dallas Synnott, Raelene Inglis - each received a signed copy of Dunedin Light Seasons book from Derek Morrison at Box of Light.

We also had the people's choice award and the people voted Mason Osborne the clear winner on the night.  He also received a signed copy of Dunedin Light Seasons book from Derek Morrison at Box of Light.

Thanks again to everyone who made this year's Privateering Light possible.  The work looked great on the wall and those of you who were able to make it to the closing event were sure to have gone home with some with some great new art.  Where will it be next...

The 2015 Privateering Exhibition has opened this morning at the Fringe Festival Headquarters in Dunedin.  It's great to see such a fantastic response from photography enthusiasts.  We have 105 images in the exhibition from 38 photographers from around the country.

The exhibition will be on display at the Dunedin Fringe Festival HQ (11 George St) from today March 12th until Saturday 21st March.

At 4pm on Sat 21st we will have the closing event where we can all get together to chat and view the exhibition.  Clive Copeman will share his thoughts on the work and select his pick of the exhibition.  At the closing everyone present will get to take one (maybe more) photo off the wall and take it home with them.  There will be gold coin entry and everyone is welcome.

Thanks again to the great businesses who have supported Privateering Light 2015: The Photo Gallery, Box of Light, Tech Teach, Rialto Dunedin, and the Dunedin Fringe Festival.

We've had a great response, but also a few requests for a couple more days to get photos to us.  So, being the kind individuals that we are :) we've extended the deadline to Mondy 9th March.  This is the absolute last day they can get to us though as we need time to set up the exhibition.  Any problems, contact Melanie middlemiss.photography@gmail.com

Clive to pick his top photos of exhibition

Each year a local photographer has attended the Privateering Light exhibition to provide some comments about the photos on display, and this year is no exception as Clive Copeman has agreed to take up this role.

The name Clive may be familiar to some of you - he is a commercial and portrait photographer based in Dunedin, but he is also an SIT tutor.  Clive's feedback on the exhibition images at the closing event will be invaluable, and may also be lucrative for the lucky photographers whose photos he selects as his pick of the exhibition.  They will take home prizes from our sponsors: The Photo Gallery, Adventure Media Group.

A big shout out to Tim and the team at The Photo Gallery in Dunedin for donating a $100 voucher for The Photo Gallery services.  If you haven't been in to see them, you definitely should!  They are Photo, Canvas and Blockmount specialists, and can make your photos come to life on your walls.

It seems such a shame that we take all these beautiful photos and most of them never make it off our hard drives.  Why not treat yourself and pick out your favourite photo and take it into the The Photo Gallery.  They can help you decide the best way to print it for displaying on your wall.  You may even be the lucky Privateering Light participant who goes home from the event on 21st March with the $100 voucher to help make this happen :)
